asked the Minister of Food how much food in tons and by types has been sent from Britain to Europe since the policy of Lend-Lease was terminated.

Sit B. Smith, pursuant to his reply [OFFICIAL REPORT, 10th October, 1945, Vol. 414, c. 239] supplied the following statement

The following quantities of foods (in tons) have been sent to Europe by the U.K. between 1st September and 7th October, 1945:

  1. 1. To Military Command North-West Europe (formerly S.H.A.E.F.)— Biscuits 4,010, Fats 407, Cocoa Beans 592, Chocolate 6, Coffee 1,000, Salt 5, Wheat 14,195 (direct shipments out of U.K. import programme).
  2. 2. To Supreme Allied Command Mediterranean Forces— Fish 400.
  3. 3. To European national Governments— Fats 3,840 (of which 3,571 to be replaced), Sugar 16,054 (of which all to be replaced), Canned Meat 9,216 (allocated by the Combined Food Board), Fish 580, Dried Fruit 1,455 (of which 1,142 was trans-shipped), tea 1,908 (of which all was trans-shipped). Canned Rice Pudding 12.
  4. 4. To relief Agencies— Flour 50, Fats 26, Dried Egg 7.
  5. 5. To U.S.A. Forces in Europe— Sugar 3,675 (of which all to be replaced).

The above figures do not include either supplies to U.K. Services in Europe or on-shipment cargoes procured in U.S.A. for European civilians but diverted to the U.K.
