§ Mr. WoodburnThe existing world speed record was set up in 1939 by the pilot of a German Messerschmitt, who flew at a speed of about 486 m.p.h. Two British Gloster Meteor aircraft are being prepared, and are nearing completion, with a view to attacking the existing record. The course is being laid out just east of Herne Bay. If preliminary practices are successful, the actual date of the attempt, dependent on weather conditions, should be within the next 14 days.
