HC Deb 09 October 1945 vol 414 cc53-4W
Mr. Nield

asked the Secretary of State for War the average period of time which elapses between the request for, and receipt of, a certificate of service required by members of the A.T.S. for the purpose of obtaining employment.

Mr. Lawson

In the case of other ranks, a short Statement of Service together with an assessment of Military Conduct and Testimonial is recorded in the release book which is handed to the auxiliary at the Military Dispersal Unit. If an auxiliary applies to the Officer in charge of A.T.S. Records for further details of Service, the Statement is despatched within two or three days of receipt of the application. An A.T.S. officer should normally receive a Statement of Service within a week of her application to the War Office. But there may be some delay if the application is made within a few days of her release from the Service, while the personal records are still in use in connection with the release procedure.
