§ Major Beamishasked the Secretary of State for War the total number of Poles who fought under British or American command during the war; how many have so far been offered, repatriation; how many have refused this offer; how many have accepted it; and how many have been repatriated.
§ Mr. LawsonI cannot say how many Poles have served at one time or other during the war but the latest available total of those still serving under British Command, which is also the highest total, is approximately 236,000. All have been invited to register for repatriation, if they so wish and so far about 37,300 have so volunteered. Since those who have not yet volunteered are not required to take a decision now, no refusals to return have been recorded. Repatriation from Italy has already commenced.
