§ Mr. Hurdasked the Secretary of State for War what action he is taking to restore to Mrs. R. F. Smith the use of her house, No. 212A, Tilehurst Road, Reading, which was vacated by the Army in 1250W June and which, she was informed in July, would be derequisitioned, but which has since been entered and occupied by squatters.
§ Mr. LawsonA writ has been served on the occupants.
§ Mr. Goochasked the Secretary of State for War when the 14 hotels and boarding houses occupied by the military at Sheringham, Norfolk, and hotels and houses occupied by the military at Cromer, Norfolk, will be returned to the owners, so that the premises can be repaired and redecorated in readiness for the 1946 season and the seasonal trade restored to these two towns.
§ Mr. LawsonThe properties in Sheringham are now in process of release so far as my Department is concerned. I anticipate that those held by my Department in Cromer will be available for release by the end of this year.
Squadron-Leader E. Robertsasked the Secretary of State for War how many acres of land are at present held by his Department in the county of Merioneth; and whether the Department intends to reduce such acreage drastically in the near future.
§ Mr. LawsonThe total acreage of land held for training purposes in the county is 8,400 acres of War Department owned property and about 1,300 acres of requisitioned land. In addition training rights are exercised over about 64,000 acres, but in this case the occupiers are not dispossessed. Over 2,000 acres of the latter have been authorised for release and are awaiting clearance of unexploded missiles. A further 20,000 acres will not be required after 1st December, and will similarly be released when cleared. The above figures do not include land held for accommodation purposes but the amount is very small.
