§ Mr. P. Freemanasked the Minister of Education whether she is aware that punishment books are kept in many schools which may be used as evidence of character afterwards; and whether she will consider abolishing such practice.
§ Miss WilkinsonThe keeping of a punishment book for recording all cases 747W of corporal punishment is a requirement of the Ministry of Education. I have no reason to suppose that such records are used as evidence of character afterwards, but if my hon. Friend is aware of such cases and will send me particulars, I will have inquiries made into the matter.
