HC Deb 14 November 1945 vol 415 c2281W
Mr. Bottomley

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if any steps are being taken to exploit the recent bauxite discoveries in Jamaica; and whether it is proposed to carry out such operations under public ownership or control.

Mr. George Hall

The Jamaica Government is now considering the policy to be adopted on the development of the bauxite deposits. Actual operations must, however, await the enactment of mining legislation, and steps are being taken to enact such legislation as soon as possible.
