§ Sir B. Neven-Spenceasked the Secretary of State for War if he is aware that most of the labourers and their wives and families who have survived the Japanese occupation of Malaya have had little to eat but tapioca roots for the past three years; and what steps are being taken to provide them with rice or other suitable grains.
§ Mr. LawsonI am aware that all who were in Malaya during the Japanese occupation suffered great privations and harsh treatment. Before liberation, plans were made to bring speedy relief, including the importation of rice and other foodstuffs. These plans were implemented from the first days of liberation and such supplies are being distributed throughout the liberated areas.
