§ Commander Maitlandasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that repatriation leave ex India and release above Group 22 in the 81st West African Division has ceased until further notice on the grounds that there are not sufficient Europeans left in the division for it to function properly; why reinforcements were brought into this division and posted away as unwanted men; and if he will consider sending immediate reinforcements in order to restore the normal work arrangements of the division.
§ Mr. LawsonI am aware of the suspension of repatriation and leave from this formation. Great difficulty has been experienced in providing officers and non commissioned officers who are qualified and suitable for the particular duties and in some cases reinforcements sent have2060W had to be withdrawn. Drafts of specially selected officers and non-commissioned officers are being sent to India in November and December for the West African Divisions, but it is not possible at present to meet all the requirements.
