§ Captain Swinglerasked the Secretary of State for War how many officers and other ranks who were in receipt of retired pay or pensions prior to 3rd September, 1939, were re-employed during the war; and how many are now so re-employed.
§ Mr. LawsonExact figures are not available, but it is estimated that some 3, 000 prewar retired pay officers have been re-employed at one time or another during the war, and that between 800 and 900 are still re-employed, although the numbers are falling rapidly. The corresponding figures for other ranks could not be obtained without considerable labour and research in the various Army Pay Offices.
