§ Mr. N. Bowerasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury if he is aware that many teachers have not yet received the increases in their pensions which are 393W due to them under the Pensions (Increase) Act, 1944; and when he anticipates that it will be possible for these increases to be paid.
§ Mr. PeakeI am aware that the manpower shortage has caused unavoidable delay in dealing with applications for increase of teachers' pensions. Steady progress, however, has been made by the Paymaster General's office and by now pension increases have been paid to the vast majority of eligible pensioners, and it is hoped that payments will be made to the remainder before the end of June, save where further information has to be obtained before the amount of pension increase can be assessed.
