asked the Secretary of State for War whether officers or other ranks who have a strong objection to taking drugs, such as mepacrine, have the right to refuse to take this drug.

No, Sir. officers and other ranks have no right to refuse to obey a lawful order, and Commanders-in-Chief are entitled to issue orders to ensure that their troops are lighting fit and kept free from disease. Neither religious scruples, howeverbona fide, nor dislike of such unpleasant after-effects as it may produce, afford justification for refusing to take mepacrine.
