§ Mr. R. Morganasked the Minister of Works whether, with a view to expediting house construction, he will inquire into the possibilities of evolving a type of construction to which unskilled labour can make a substantial contribution, thus enabling homeless people to assist in the construction of their own homes in their spare time.
§ Mr. SandysResearch and development in regard to prefabrication and other simplified methods of house construction are being intensively pursued by the Ministry of Works, in conjunction with the industry. The possibility of enlisting the assistance of unskilled spare-time house builders is not being overlooked. My hon. Friend will, however, realise that the use of this form of labour raises many difficult problems of organisation and technical supervision.
