HC Deb 02 March 1945 vol 408 c1678W
Wing-Commander Errington

asked the Secretary of State whether he is prepared to grant 56 days discharge leave to officers and men who are discharged on grounds of age after a lengthy period of war service, but before the demobilisation scheme comes into operation.

Sir J. Grigg

Fifty-six days' leave will be granted to men released from the Armed Forces on general demobilisation in order to help them over what may be a difficult period of resettlement. This consideration does not apply at present, and for this reason my hon. and gallant Friend's suggestion has not been adopted. It has, however, been decided to grant this leave now to those who are invalided from the Armed Forces because, as a result of their disabilities, they may need a longer time than others to obtain suitable employment.
