HC Deb 12 June 1945 vol 411 c1509W
Mr. Guy

asked the Prime Minister if it has yet been decided to give members of local authorities serving in the Forces an opportunitly of release in order to continue as candidates at the forthcoming municipal elections.

Sir J. Anderson

I have been asked to reply. Instructions are in course of issue by the Service Departments on the subject of candidature for local government elections by members of the Forces. They will be given reasonable facilities, and freedom from restrictions, in order to pursue their candidature, but the facilities will not include special leave or release, or special arrangements for return from overseas. A candidate can stand and be elected in absence.
