HC Deb 12 June 1945 vol 411 cc1504-5W
Mr. D. J. Williams

asked the Secretary of State for War whether, now that the war in Europe has ended, he proposes to make any change in the conditions governing releases, on compassionate grounds, from the Armed Forces.

Sir J. Grig

The White Paper on the Release Scheme includes the following: "It will be possible for men to obtain release on compassionate grounds in accordance with the arrangements already in force." Moreover, as I said in my statement in the Debate on Friday, the expected increase in leave traffic between this country and the Mediterranean should permit an increase in the number of soldiers who can be given compassionate leave to deal with urgent domestic affairs. I understand that this applies to the R.A.F., too.
