HC Deb 12 June 1945 vol 411 c1495W
Mr. Pritt

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether the recent announcement as to the proposed removal of style restrictions on clothing was made after consultation with the trade; if he is aware that to take this step before the labour and supply position improves will result in the production of fewer garments at increased prices; and why the announcement has suddenly been made at this time.

Mr. Lyttelton

The only announcement I have made is that discussions with the trade are being resumed. I have no desire to retain these restrictions a moment longer than is strictly necessary, but I can assure the hon. and learned Member that the labour and supply position will be fully taken into account in deciding how quickly they can be removed.
