§ Sir G. Owenasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that the adoption of Summer Time during the winter months, in addition to consuming extra gas and power, has added materially to the costs of the farmer and has greatly increased his labour difficulties; and will he therefore take steps to discontinue double Summer Time at the earliest opportunity.
§ Mr. H. MorrisonAs has been frequently made clear, the Government are well aware that there are conflicting considerations of which account must be taken, but on balance it has hitherto been found that the special war-time arrangement for advancing the clock by one hour in winter and two hours in summer has been of substantial advantage to the paramount purpose of supplying the needs of the Armed Forces.
