§ Mr. Snaddenasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what arrangements he is making in regard to the supply of labour for next year's harvest in Scotland, with particular reference to prisoners of war and casual labour.
Mr. FraserThe Government accept responsibility for the provision of such supplementary labour as may be necessary to secure next year's harvests. There will be some falling off in the numbers from some of the sources available last harvest, for example, Italian prisoners of war, Women's Land Army and Poles, but I am hopeful that it will be possible to augment the supply of German prisoners of war so as to make good any losses on this account, and that it will also be possible to recruit substantial additional supplies of labour from other sources.
