HC Deb 14 December 1945 vol 417 c887W
Mr. King

asked the Minister of Education if she is aware that assistant masters at St. Austell county school have just been ordered to sign 14 times weekly a teachers' time record book as if they were paid by the hour; that this order has caused resentment amongst the staffs of secondary schools; and whether she will ensure that this order is rescinded wherever it obtains.

Miss Wilkinson

The teachers' record book, to which my hon. Friend refers and of which I have seen a copy, is an attendance book showing the time of arrival and departure of teachers and is similar to the attendance books used throughout the Government service. Apart from its value as a check on attendances the record has certain uses in connection with sick leave and superannuation. The record has been in use for many years in most schools in Cornwall and the question at issue relates to the extension of its use to all maintained schools. I understand that the question is shortly to be considered by the appropriate committee of the L.E.A., when teachers' representatives will have on opportunity of stating their case.
