HC Deb 12 December 1945 vol 417 cc581-2W
Mr. Keeling

asked the Secretary of State for War whether, in view of the restrictions on rail travel imposed upon officers and men of the Fighting Services at Christmas, he will arrange for appeals to be broadcast to the motoring public to give lifts to members of the Services in uniform.

Mr. Bellenger

No, Sir. There could bono assurance that men given lifts would be able to return to their units in the same way. While we have no wish to discourage motorists if they feel so inclined, from giving lifts to Service men, leave for the Services could not be administered on that basis.
