HC Deb 12 December 1945 vol 417 c579W
Mr. Williamson

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware that the distribution of grapefruit and apples at Scunthorpe on Wednesday, 5th December, has created considerable dissatisfaction; that supplies were sold out before 10 a.m., disappointing queues of waiting people; what total supplies were available; if such supplies were sufficient for an equal distribution to ration card holders; and if he will establish a more equitable method of distribution by the marking of ration cards.

Sir B. Smith

I am aware that the recent allocations to the Scunthorpe area of 48,000 lbs. of grapefruit and 75,000 lbs. of imported apples left many would be purchasers unsatisfied. Unfortunately, the maximum shipments of these fruits I can bring in this Winter will be too small and intermittent to permit distribution on the ration book.
