HC Deb 11 December 1945 vol 417 cc338-9W
Major Symonds

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will consider extending leave facilities for troops in C.M.F. to cover trips to Switzerland, on similar lines to the facilities afforded to U.S. forces.

Mr. Lawson

No, Sir. There are currency difficulties.

Major Wilkes

asked the Secretary of State for War whether, in view of the fact that short leave is granted from B.A.O.R. and other areas, he will consider abolishing the ruling obtaining in C.M.F. that L.I.A.P. is only granted to men who after return from such leave have a further four months to serve; or whether he will consider reducing this latter period to two months.

Mr. Lawson

For the reasons given on 21st August in reply to a Question by the hon. Member for Bridgwater (Mr. Bartlett) it is not possible to arrange identical leave schemes in these commands. As regards the particular proposal, I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the reply I gave on 30th October to a Question by the hon. Member for Ripon (Mr. York).
