§ Mr. Cobbasked the Assistant Postmaster-General whether the telecommunication research and development programme planned for the immediate future provides for an increase in quantity 178W and quality over that carried out in the years 1934 to 1939, inclusive; and by whom the future programme will be carried out.
§ Mr. BurkeI can only speak for the Post Office, in regard to which the answer is in the affirmative. The Post Office undertakes its own research and development. Research and development in the same field is also undertaken by other Government Departments, e.g. Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Supply, Ministry of Aircraft Production and Admiralty, and by the Telecommunications industry itself.
