§ Mr. G. Thomas
asked the Minister of Education the number of trade vocational schools in Wales; where they are situated and whether she has plans for their extension.
§ Miss Wilkinson
There are 23 schools in Wales which were recognised as junior technical schools prior to 1st April, 1945. These are situated in Carmarthenshire, Denbighshire, Glamorgan, Monmouth-182W shire, Montgomeryshire, Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Newport and Swansea. In several cases, plans for extensions to meet urgent needs have been approved or are under consideration. My hon. Friend will appreciate that these are not trade schools but schools giving a technical secondary education; the further development of such schools will in general fall to be considered as part of the local education authorities' development plans. There are, of course, many trade vocational classes in technical colleges and institutions.
