§ Captain Stricklandasked, the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in view of the experience during the war years, he will consider the amendment of the Shops Act, 1928, so that the closing of retail shops may be fixed for not later than seven p.m., with one late night at eight p.m., leaving local authorities power to order earlier hours if such are considered advisable.
§ Mr. PeakeAs my right hon. Friend stated in reply to Questions on 6th July, he fully recognises the importance of this matter to the large number of persons employed in shops, and the question of what is the most effective and speedy method of exploring the issues involved is now under consideration.
