§ Mr. A. Walkdenasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether he will state the total number of technical staff employed on the railways of Great Britain from the latest returns rendered to the Ministry of Transport by the various railway companies, including the L.P.T.B.
§ Mr. Noel-BakerThe latest returns from the various railway companies and London Passenger Transport Board show that on 13th March, 1943, 3,701 male technical staff were employed. This number does not include certain technical staff who are in receipt of salaries of £500 per annum or more. I am informed that on 9th November last the total number of technical staff, including those who receive salaries of £500 per annum or more, was approximately 4,300.
