asked the Prime Minister whether he can now state the names of the members of the Royal Commission on Equal Pay.

Yes, Sir. As my hon. Friend is aware, the King has already approved the setting up of a Royal Commission an Equal Pay with the following terms of referenceTo examine the existing relationship between the remuneration of men and women in the public services, in industry and in other fields of employment; to consider the social, economic and financial implications of the claim of equal pay for equal work; and to report.

The membership of the Royal Commission is as follows;

  • The Honourable Mr. Justice Asquith (Chairman).
  • John Brown, Esquire.
  • Janet Maria, Mrs. Gourlay, D.M., F.R.C.P. (Dr. Janet Vaughan).
  • The Countess of Limerick, C.B.E.
  • Dame Anne Loughlin, D.B.E.
  • Miss Lucy Frances Nettlefold.
  • The Honourable Jasper Nicholas Ridley, O.B.E.
  • Professor Dennis Holme Robertson, C.M.G., F.B.A.
  • Charles Stanley Robinson, Esquire, C.B.E.,

I understand that the Royal Commission will be holding its first meeting early next week.
