§ Sir F. Sandersonasked the Secretary of State for War whether, when considering allowances for children, he will see that they are paid to the mother instead of the father, since the mother is entirely responsible for spending the money to the best advantage for the children.
§ Sir J. GriggFamily lodging allowance in the case of officers and family allowance in the case of other ranks are emolu- 765W ments of the officer and soldier concerned. It has, however, been the normal practice in war-time to pay family allowance direct to the soldier's wife on his behalf. As I explained in a reply I gave the hon. Member for Bassetlaw on 18th July, such arrangements cannot be made for officers.
