§ Mr. AmeryThe importance of this question is fully realised both by South-East Asia Command and the Government of India. As I stated in my reply of 5th October to my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for Newark (Lieut.-Colonel Shephard) 42 leave centres are maintained by the Government of India for the use of British troops in the Indian and South-East Asia Commands. These provide accommodation for 23,000 persons at any one time, and it is planned to expand this to 52,000 for next year. These camps are located in the hills.
