§ Mr. Channon
asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he will consider making retrospective to men who have served since January, 1943, in the Far East theatre of war, the increased payment being made to Service men in this theatre from the 1st November, 1944; and whether flying in the Australian area will be regarded as operational, especially in view of its onerous nature.
§ Sir A. Sinclair
I cannot undertake to consider the suggestion in the first part of my hon. Friend's Question. The decision to introduce Japanese Campaign Pay and Far Eastern Allowance with effect from 1st November, 1944, was taken after full consideration by His Majesty's Government. The answer to the second part of the Question is that flying 1379W in operations against the enemy Australian area is regarded as operational flying.
