HC Deb 03 November 1944 vol 404 c1101W
Mr. Brooke

asked the Minister of Labour whether it is still proposed to transfer more men compulsorily from the N.F.S. in London to the Armed Forces; and, if so, what is to be the upper age limit.

Mr. Bevin

The men referred to are being released from the National Fire Service because they are no longer required in that Service. All men who are liable under the National Service Acts retain their liability to be called up for military service, but, as I have already announced, I have now found it possible to refrain in general from calling up men born in or before 1909. Whether or not all the men released from the National Fire Service who were born in 1910 or later will in fact be called up must depend upon the demands of the Armed Forces and other war requirements.
