§ Sir G. Jonesasked the President of the Board of Trade whether Sir Thomas Barlow before being appointed Director-General of Civilian Clothing had any, and, if so, what, association or experience with the manufacture of clothing or the bespoke tailoring trade; whether he is a full-time official; and whether he receives any and, if so, what salary or emoluments or expenses.
§ Mr. DaltonSir Thomas Barlow has a wide experience of the textile industry, but was not connected with the clothing or bespoke tailoring trade. He is a full-time officer of the Board of Trade. He draws no salary, and no expenses, other than travelling and subsistence allowance, on the ordinary Civil Service scale, when on Government business. I am glad to take this opportunity to pay a tribute to the outstanding services rendered by Sir Thomas Barlow, as Director-General of Civilian Clothing, since his appointment in December, 1941.
