HC Deb 14 June 1944 vol 400 c1989W
Mr. Sloan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many building workers are now serving in the fire service at Stranraer; how many serious fires have occurred in this district during the last three months; and when he proposes to release these building workers for work on municipal houses.

Mr. Johnston

The number of building workers now serving in the National Fire Service at Stranraer is 28; there have been no serious fires in this district during the last three months. While it is not possible to discharge these men at present from the National Fire Service, they can, under arrangements of long standing, be temporarily released, if necessary, for essential local building work.
