§ Sir J. Mellorasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether any of the 19 coasting vessels on the Eire register, referred to in Questions 2608 to 2628 in the Minutes of Evidence taken before the Committee of Public Accounts, 1943, and Appendix No. 3 to the Report, discharged cargo at Eire ports while covered by insurance subsidised by the British Government; and, if so, in what circumstances.
§ Mr. Noel-BakerIt is explained fully in Appendix No. 3 to the Report of the Public Accounts Committee referred to that the insurance of Eire vessels was not subsidised by H.M. Government. There is no record of the cargo carried by Eire ships at the time in question, but, as they, were trading between Great Britain and Eire, no doubt they discharged cargo at Eire ports and also at ports in Great Britain.
