§ Mr. Summersasked the Secretary of State for Air if he is aware of the long hours of work which the civilian staff at an R.A.F. office, of which he has been informed, are called upon to endure, namely, from Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 6.30 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and every other Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and if he will investigate the position with a view to some amelioration in the conditions of service.
§ Sir A. SinclairYes, Sir. The pressure of work at this unit is heavy and the long hours are necessary in order to ensure that the operational requirements of the Royal Air Force are promptly met. The hours of work have, however, been discussed recently with the employees' representatives, and I am glad to say that it has been found possible to reduce the hours worked by women. Employees who work on Sundays can take another day off.
