HC Deb 04 April 1944 vol 398 c1818W
Captain Duncan

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what system is in evidence whereby the Service Departments inform the Revenue authorities when serving men are reported as prisoners of war or missing, so that Income Tax reliefs can be automatically adjusted without worrying the dependants to make application in each case.

Sir J. Anderson

Arrangements exist under which the Inland Revenue authorities receive information from the Service Departments regarding members of the Forces liable to tax on Service pay who become prisoners of war or are reported missing. The working of these arrangements is now under consideration as part of a general review of the machinery for giving Income Tax relief to prisoners of war.
