HC Deb 23 September 1943 vol 392 c414W
Lieut.-Colonel Dower

asked the Minister of Health how he proposes to implement his instruction that owners or tenants should be given an opportunity of repairing and letting or reoccupying their houses before they are seized on the grounds of their being empty if the repairs required to be done will cost more than the sum they are at present entitled to expend on such work?

Mr. E. Brown

I would ask my hon. and gallant Friend to await publication of the scheme for repairs, based on the recommendations made to me by the conference of representatives of local authorities' associations, which has been drawn up by the Ministers concerned and which is to be discussed with those representatives early next week. In the meantime my hon. and gallant Friend may rest assured that full provision will be made for the carrying out of the work by the owners where they are able and willing to do so.
