§ Captain Pluggeasked the Minister of Labour how many cases have been brought to his notice of men and women being transferred to jobs at lower salaries than they previously received; how far this procedure causes serious family hardship; whether the persons affected have any right of appeal to an independent tribunal; and how far they are aware of this right?
§ Mr. BevinThe information asked for in the first part of the Question is not available. In regard to the rest of the Question my local officers have instructions to avoid, as far as possible, the compulsory transfer of persons to employment which would result in a substantial loss of earnings. Such transfers may, however, be necessary in the national interest, but all persons who are directed under Defence (General) Regulation 58A 425W to employment are ordinarily allowed to appeal o a Local Appeal Board and they are informed in writing of their opportunity to appeal.
