HC Deb 23 September 1943 vol 392 cc453-4W
Mr. Dobbie

asked the Secretary of State for India the nature and contents of the communication or copy of a resolution, sent to him by the general secretary of the Trades Union Congress of Great Britain, about the situation in India?

Mr. Amery

I have no record of any such resolution or communication having been sent to me.

Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for India whether he will make a statement respecting the present political situation in India; whether he has considered the appeal made by 25 Indian missionaries for a new effort by the Government to relieve the deadlock; and whether he will reconsider his refusal to reveal to the House the contents of the correspondence between Mr. Gandhi and Sir Reginald Maxwell on Mr. Gandhi's views on the present situation?

Mr. Amery

There have been no fresh developments of late in the political situation in India which the House would, I think, wish to have brought specially to its notice. With regard to the latter part of the Question I have nothing to add to the replies which I gave to the hon. Member's Questions on the 5th August and 29th July.
