§ Mr. Woodburnasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what are the conditions which affect the transfer of 435W currency to Northern Ireland and Eire; whether there are any limits to the amounts transferred by draft or carried on the person; and whether Eire imposes any restriction on the export of British currency from Eire to neutral countries?
§ Mr. AsshetonSince both Northern Ireland and Eire are within the sterling area, funds may be remitted through the banking channel, and it had been decided that no useful purpose would be served by restricting the amounts which can be carried on the person by travellers to destinations in Northern Ireland or Eire. As regards the last part of the Question, an exchange control essentially similar to our own has been imposed, and is exercised, by the Government of Eire.
