Graham-Littleasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food for what purposes and to what firms or agencies permission is at present granted to supply speciality flour from which the wheat-germ has been abstracted notwithstanding the Statutory Order, No. 451, of 11th March, 1942, disallowing this abstraction; what proportion of the whole output of flour is allotted for such speciality flour; what quota of the wheat-germ thus abstracted is allocated to each of the vendors of proprietary articles now receiving this product; and whether the list 62W of recipients thus favoured remains the same as in July, 1942?
§ Mr. MabaneThe main speciality flour is self-raising flour for which 1,608 licences have been issued and it would not be practicable in this answer to give a list of the firms concerned. The reference to Statutory Order No. 451, is not understood as this Order, which was revoked by Statutory Order No. 11 of 1943, did not disallow the extraction of germ from speciality flour. No special allocation of flour is made for the production of specialities but it is estimated that approximately 5 per cent. of the whole output is used for the speciality mentioned above. The quantity of germ available which, for technical reasons, is a variable quantity, is distributed to approved recipients. The only proprietary articles which have been added to the list given in the reply to my hon. Friend on 16th July, 1942, are preparations made by Bickiepegs, Ltd., A. C. Whitehead and J. and M. Glaskie.
