HC Deb 21 September 1943 vol 392 c46W
Captain Gammans

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what steps he proposes to take to increase the production of coal to supply the needs of North Africa, Italy and any other liberated countries?

Major Lloyd George

The requirements of coal for operational and other essential purposes in the countries mentioned are the subject of urgent examination. This country's share of the additional tonnage which will have to be found is not yet known but steps are being taken by increasing the labour force and by the other means which I have from time to time indicated to the House to maintain and, if possible, to increase output.
