§ Colonel Medlicottasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport (1) whether his attention has been drawn to the unsatisfactory state of the law relating to the protection of the coast against erosion by the sea; and whether he will consider initiating legislation which will transfer the responsibility to lateral coast protection boards to be formed for this purpose;
(2) whether his attention has been drawn to the increasing amount of coast erosion along the East Coast of England, particularly in the county of Norfolk; and what consideration is being given to this problem, in view of the valuable land which is thus being lost?
58W
§ Mr. Noel-BakerI am aware that in certain places there has been an increase in damage by erosion. I will cause inquiries to be made into the extent of the damage and into other aspects of the problem, but I cannot encourage my hon. and gallant Friend to hope that new legislation will be introduced before the end of the war.
