asked the Minister of Fuel and Power the quantity of coal produced in South Wales and Monmouthshire; the amount controlled by the Powell Duffryn Associated Collieries; and the names of the other colliery companies together with the output of coal which each of them controls?

In the year 1942 the total output of saleable coal in South Wales and Monmouthshire was 26,700,000 tons. So far as the other parts of the Question are concerned, I am precluded by the provisions of the Mining Industry Act, 1920, from making public any information of this nature relating to individual undertakings except under certain limited conditions.

The output of saleable coal during the 22 weeks ended 2nd October, 1943, was 80,750,000 tons as compared with 84,384,000 tons in the corresponding period of 1942. The estimated tonnage lost owing to disputes for the same periods was 470,000 tons and 620,000 tons respectively
