HC Deb 12 October 1943 vol 392 c743W
Mr. Driberg

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works whether the absorbent tiles in the windows of the Chamber are a permanent fixture; and, if not, what is to be done to improve the acoustics when they are removed?

Mr. Hicks

As I stated in my reply to the hon. Member on 22nd September, I am advised that the removal of the tiles would be detrimental to the acoustics of the Chamber. Up till now no solution has been found of the problem of restoring daylight without affecting the acoustics. But in view of the great interest taken by hon. Members in this matter I am arranging for further expert examination of the problem although I am not sanguine of any practical plan resulting.
