HC Deb 12 October 1943 vol 392 c730W
Lieut.-Colonel Wickham

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware that the Essex County War Agricultural Executive Committee have recently issued a letter headed Our Ref. H.Q/TD /F. Stuffs/DH/(1)/B 886/MM; and whether, in order to effect economy in the use of manpower, he will cause them to simplify their method of registering correspondence?

Mr. T. Williams

I am advised that the use by the Essex War Agricultural Executive Committee of reference numbers on the general lines of that quoted by my hon. and gallant Friend does not result in any loss of economy in the use of manpower, as it enables replies quoting the appropriate reference number to be immediately referred to the individual officer concerned with the correspondence. The Essex Committee have been asked to do their best to shorten and simplify reference numbers.
