HC Deb 24 June 1943 vol 390 c1326W
Captain Plugge

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether, when homeward shipping space is available from South Africa, he will give preference to jam instead of fruit?

Mr. Mabane

Yes, Sir. All available supplies of jam are already being lifted from South Africa and oranges which are the only fruit being imported from that country are lifted only in space for which higher priority cargo is not available.
