HC Deb 21 July 1943 vol 391 c919W
Mr. Hewlett

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he is in a position to make any further statement on the possibility of an increase in the jam ration?

Mr. Mabane

My Noble Friend has decided to release for consumption next winter a quantity of imported canned jam which has been held as a measure of security by my Department but is no longer required for this purpose in view of the home supplies which will shortly be available. This imported jam together with certain home-produced jam, such as plum or rhubarb, which is in good supply, will it is estimated be sufficient to provide for the greater part of the coming winter a special ration of I lb. per person each four weeks in addition to the existing ration. Further particulars will be announced in due course.
