HC Deb 21 July 1943 vol 391 cc923-4W
Sir M. Sueter

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he will give instructions to the Departments concerned that redundant officials whose service has been of value should be suitably thanked on the termination of their appointment; and is he aware that the present method of communicating with redundant officials in connection with volunteering for service with His Majesty's Forces has caused adverse comment and is not likely to advance their efficiency in other posts?

Mr. Assheton

While those who have promoted the war effort in any capacity can rest assured that their services are fully appreciated by the Government, I think that the expression of that appreciation in particular cases can best be left to the discretion of the Departments concerned. As regards the last part of the Question, I am unaware of any such criticism, but I shall be glad to inquire into the matter if my hon. and gallant Friend will give me particulars of what he has in mind.
